Each Holy Mass has as many intentions as there are people present who bring their "intention(s)"...personal desires or wishes...to Almighty God by uniting those intentions to Christ in the Holy Sacrifice on the Altar.
A "Mass Intention" is a request on behalf of any of the faithful for the priest offering the Mass to make "their" intention "his own" during that particular Mass.Masses can be offered for the Living or the Dead.
The Intention is considered "Announced" when published in the bulletin.
Typically: Mass Intention: Sally Jones, by Tom Smith
The donor has the option of publishing or excluding their own name from the Announcement.
For example: Mass Intention: Sally Jones, by "a friend" by "a relative" by (blank)
The donor has the option of publishing or excluding the recipient from the Announcement.
For example: Mass Intention: "For a special friend", "For a special Intention", by Tom Smith
At this time, Mass Intentions are accepted directly by Fr. Steven either by phone or email. Arragnement for Mass by telephone is preferred as Father can consult the Mass book at that moment to arrange for the Mass with the person making the request assuring the appropriate date then and there.
A donation is standard practice. In the Diocese of Burlington, $10.00 is customary. However, individuals may give freely more or less as their means allow. Intentions are always and readily accepted from those for whom a donation would constitute a burden. This information remains confidential. Traditionally, this donation is applied to the priest's sustenance.
